Sin vs. Holly Spirit

One of the people in the wed night group I attend, brought up an interesting idea from a book they had been reading.
Instead of losing our sinful nature when we become christian or having our sinful nature worked on and changed for the better over time/working on it, our sinful nature will always be with us and always present. However, when becoming a Christian we aquire the Holly Spirit and so we should aim to better live in the Spirit and not our sinful nature, to learn more about the spirit and what that looks like and how to hear and live in and recognise this but our same sins are always a part of us (forgiven, of course) and its more a point of being aware of this and recognising it so we can call on the spirits help and strength, istead of expecting to work on it to the point that that sin doesn't exist in us any more.

Why do you believe sins occur? I hold to the model that sin is Undue Self Regard, or self exaltation. Something I have been struggling with at the moment is discerning what is self-assurance and what is assurance from the Spirit.

Sunday week ago there was a discussion of the Holy Spirit. Someone brought up that they at times do not feel comfortable that the Spirit is leading them in a given situation. My thoughts in response to that were, How do you know the Spirit is leading you when you are assured? How do you know it's not your ego disguising it's influence and justifying it's promotion of self-interest in the name of God?

That's a bit of what I'm thinking through at the moment. I would be interested in reading the book you mentioned, as it may further me along the road to solving my struggles in this issue.

hmm, don't think I've ever really thought about it.... just kind of accepted that they do.

Yeah well thats the big question hey- I think being totally honest with yourself and everyone and looking behind what you think and why...etc and sometimes we don't know but thats all part of the learning process.
Also seeing if stuff lines up with what Jesus talked about in the bible. Esp Love- for God, others and self really don't think the holy spirit would go against that.

    (see Karen about the book!)
